Sixth Grade Language Arts, 7th/8th Grade History
Rod McLeod, born on his mother’s birthday, grew up an only child in Falls Church, Virginia, enjoying the Washington area and becoming a life long learner in a city founded on educational principles. Rod graduated summa cum laude from James Madison University where he received minors in psychology and geography and a teaching certificate to accompany his Social Science major.
Rod taught elementary and secondary age children how to properly approach a rope swing as a counselor at Camp Glenkirk. He coordinated activities for gifted students at the NASA-VIMS Governor’s School in Hampton and prepared hundreds of students for the AP U.S. History exam at Orange County High School where he was a lead teacher. Rod has also assisted school systems in Virginia, North Carolina, and Michigan manage change and align curriculum as an educational consultant.
It was while teaching at Woodberry Forest School that Rod recognized the potential inherent in the independent school experience. Rod has always valued creating meaningful school relationships and teaching contextually. Rod’s interests, philosophy, and gifts are well suited to the community Grymes is known for cultivating.
Rod lives in the town of Orange with his wife, Sandy, their son, Liam, and the family boxer “S’mores”. He is passionate about American History and baseball, collecting political memorabilia and enjoying baseball simulation games. Rod worships at the Orange Presbyterian Church where he coordinates youth activities and prepares adult Sunday school lessons.
