Melanie Handelsman

Lower School Spanish, Math, Personal Development 

Melanie Handelsman graduated from Vanderbilt University with a double major in Mathematics and Spanish. She received a Masters in Social Work from the University of Southern California. Melanie worked for five years as a social worker and for the last nine years as a teacher of Spanish and math. Melanie worked at Westridge School for Girls in Pasadena, Califormia where she taught middle and upper school Spanish and math. She also coached middle school tennis, basketball, and softball. Melanie assisted with the community service program and organized and assisted with class trips to the Navajo Indian Reservation, Washington, D.C. and San Francisco. Most recently, she taught lower school Spanish at St. Luke’s Lutheran School in Culpeper.  At Grymes she teaches lower school Spanish, Math and Personal Development.

Melanie has spent many years pursuing her passion for Spanish language and culture. She has traveled to Spain several times and had the joy of taking her sons to Valencia and Barcelona during the summers of 2007 and 2008. Melanie lives at Woodberry Forest with her husband, Andrew and two sons, Tommy and Robbie, both Grymes students. Melanie’s husband is a Spanish teacher at Woodberry Forest School.
