Fourth Grade
Marcy Wagner is a native of the eastern shore of Maryland where she developed a love for the Chesapeake Bay and environmental education. Grymes reminds her very much of the school she attended as a child, The Country School in Easton, Maryland where she made friendships she maintains today. For college, Marcy traveled south to the University of Richmond and received a Bachelor’s degree in English.
She later worked for the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay traveling throughout the Bay watershed educating young and old about Chesapeake Bay restoration, water quality and conservation. She managed a program in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia in which over 300 volunteers monitored water quality in all the Chesapeake Bay tributary rivers.
After receiving her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood education from Virginia Commonwealth University, Marcy went to the Office of Environmental Education and coordinated the Virginia Naturally program for the State of Virginia. Her work for the Governor’s Environmental Education Initiative included managing the Virginia Naturally website, a clearinghouse of educational programs, products and services and training teachers in Project WET, water education for teachers, Project WILD, wildlife education for teachers and Project Learning Tree, forestry education.
Marcy came to Grymes in 2002 and taught fourth grade for three years. When her daughter was born, she began working in the Development Office where she worked on publications, events, and the annual fund for four years. She returned to the classroom in the fall of 2009.
Marcy lives in the Green Springs area near Louisa on a small farm with her husband, Brian, her daughter, Grace, and her stepson Daniel. She volunteers for the South Anna Monitoring Project, practices yoga, rides horses, plays tennis, runs, and adopts stray pets. She and her husband love to garden with native plants. Her fourth grade curriculum allows her to share her knowledge of science and the environment as well as her love of children and the English language.
