LeeAnne Houston

Art, Sixth Grade History

LeeAnne is originally from New Jersey, but she attended middle school and high school in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She currently lives in Spotsylvania with her husband and two sons, Cassidy and Tyler, both Grymes graduates. LeeAnne is a graduate of MaryWashingtonCollege and is currently working toward a Masters Degree from VirginiaCommonwealthUniversity. She taught art in Spotsylvania County Public Schools for five years, and was awarded Teacher of the Year in 2001 when she was at CourthouseRoadElementary School.

At Grymes, LeeAnne is the art teacher for kindergarten through eighth grades as well as the history teacher for sixth grade. One of the things she finds most appealing about Grymes is the small class size and family atmosphere. She feels that the school provides a venue for students to develop critical thinking skills and allows for the opportunity to develop and express personal opinions. As a teacher, LeeAnne likes to challenge students to apply classroom knowledge to the art curriculum. She feels it is important for them to make connections not only between the curricula, but in the real world as well.

LeeAnne enjoys going to the beach, exercising, and spending time with her family. Her favorite types of art to create are mixed-media artwork and oil painting. Her students would say she also likes to dress a little on the “wild” side!
