Jesse Mercer

Mathmatics 6/7, Pre-Algebra 7, Algebra 8, & Language Arts 6

Jesse grew up in Albemarle County and graduated from Albemarle High School. He attended The College of William and Mary and graduated with a B.A. summa cum laude in 1999. While in college, he served as a teaching assistant and a research assistant in linguistics. Since graduation, he has worked as the Supervisor for Eckerd Youth Alternatives, Inc., using experiential educational methods and leading extended wilderness excursions. Jesse also worked as a tutor at The Learning Center in Charlottesville. He has lived in France for 4 years, traveled to 17 different countries, which include Morocco, Burkina Faso, and Madagascar and has made 5 voyages to various third world countries. While overseas, he worked extensively in youth missions.

Jesse has a strong math and science background, is fluent in French, proficient in German and has knowledge of Arabic. Although unaware at the time, Jesse met his future bride Amy during his college days. They were married in March 2007. Jesse enjoys all outdoor activities – especially running, hiking, canoeing, and free falling! He loves to travel and is always excited to discover a new place or culture. He’s very committed to his church – volunteering to help with the youth program and teaching Sunday School. He also loves to cook for his wife and enjoy l’art de la table!
