Technology Teacher
Evelyn, husband Tom, and son, Ben are residents of Spotsylvania County. Evelyn graduated in 1984 from Columbia University with a Bachelors of Science degree in engineering. She has worked 20+ years in the Information Technology industry for companies such as AT&T, NCR, and Cisco. In 1995 Evelyn was part of a start-up company, Amteva Technologies, which was purchased in 1999 by Cisco Systems. Throughout her career as an engineer, systems consultant, product manager and product marketer, she has found real joy in describing how technology works and why it matters to both technical and non-technical people.
Evelyn has loved Grymes from her very first visit when she began her search for a school for her son. Evelyn discovered that the school provides “the combination of a warm and caring atmosphere; natural surroundings; focus on the whole child with a strong curriculum, the arts, building student's confidence in public speaking, physical fitness, and developing in each child a sense of responsibility and self esteem. The strength of the school lies in caring faculty and staff who are empowered to do what's best for the students.”
As a parent volunteer, Evelyn became interested in helping children learn about Information Technology and together, with a partner, they started a website. She is excited to now be teaching part-time at Grymes and to share some of her enthusiasm and real world experience about Information Technology with the students. Outside of teaching, Evelyn enjoys traveling, gardening, cooking, exercise, and spending time with her family.
