Emily grew up in Richmond, Virginia and attended Saint Gertrude High School, an all-girls private school. She graduated from Virginia Tech in 2009 with a BA in French, minor in Sociology. While in Blacksburg, Emily volunteered for an after-school French program in the Blacksburg elementary schools. Emily moved to Madison County after graduating from college and began to substitute teach in Madison County schools and volunteered for Head Start.
After volunteering with Head Start in college, Emily knew she wanted to teach the younger grades and her substitute teaching experience in Madison helped reinforce that as well. Emily enjoys the close-knit community that is so obvious at Grymes. She experienced first-hand “that family feeling you get with a smaller school” when attending a private high school. Emily enjoys being a part of the warm and friendly faculty at Grymes.
Outside of the classroom, Emily’s interests include reading and traveling. She studied abroad in Paris for six weeks in 2008 and hopes to one day see more of Europe.
