Seventh Grade Homeroom, Seventh & Eighth Grade English
Dana became acquainted with Grymes when her sons, Brian and Taylor, began junior kindergarten here in 1983. She found her love of words and her talent for the stage and began teaching English, Creative Writing, and Drama in 1994. In her years at Grymes, the English program has become an integral part of what sets Grymes apart from other schools. Students in the seventh and eighth grades grow in so many ways by discovering what they think and feel about the world through literature and writing. Their creativity comes to life on stage, and her eighth grade students have won recognition and an invitation to perform at the Folger Shakespeare Festival in Washington, DC since 1997. The Writer’s Eye Competition at the Bayly Art Museum at the University of Virginia has recognized 29 Grymes students since 1996 for their creative writing talent under the instruction of Dana Bost.
Dana grew up within commuting distance of Manhattan, worked her way through Trenton and Paterson State Colleges in New Jersey and graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.S. in Nursing. She became a Public Health Nurse and drove down every back road in Albemarle County in her 1968 Volkswagen Beetle. After the birth of her two sons, she embarked on a career as a photographer and then discovered Grymes.
Outside of school, Dana enjoys running, thinking, reading, movies, writing, croquet, travel, conversation, coffee, dancing, laughing, acting silly and friends.
