Athletic Director, Physical Education Teacher, Coach
Charlie joined the Grymes faculty in 2004. He has had numerous years of experience in a wide variety of educational settings, both public and private. Charlie received a B.A. in English from Colgate University and has taken many courses on the graduate level including Chinese Studies at the University of Michigan and Special Education and Curriculum Development for the Middle School at the University of Maine. While in Maine, Charlie taught math, English and social studies for ten years to students in fifth through eighth grades. He has taught three years of high school English and Latin, two of those years at Stuart Hall School in Staunton, Virginia and he taught sixth grade in Culpeper county. He is drawn to history and cross-cultural studies, environmental studies, and enjoys historical fiction and staying abreast of current events and the political scene.
Beyond teaching, Charlie has enjoyed coaching, has led student trips into the wilderness by foot and by boat, led groups to Europe for skiing in the Alps and has performed in theatrical productions. He enjoys hiking, kayaking, biking, gardening and playing music. He has two children, Will and Mollie. Mollie, a former Grymes student in the junior kindergarten program of 1985 is the mother of Finn and Moses, Charlie’s grandsons.
