Athletics

The goal of the athletic program is to provide students the opportunity to identify and develop his or her potential through interscholastic athletics.

Athletic Director's Welcome

G

rymes Memorial School has a rich history in athletics. Student-athletes here have the chance to compete against top programs and work with incredible coaches, who are often their teachers off the field. Our students learn how to push themselves harder and farther than they ever imagined possible.

The physical education and athletics program at Grymes is an integral part of the overall educational experience. We offer each student, regardless of ability, the opportunity to experience growth, accomplishment, and success at his or her own skill level.  Almost all Grymes middle school students participate in at least one athletic activity each year, typically as a member of one of our teams competing in 8 sports over three seasons. In addition to our athletic teams, Grymes has club teams and intramural programs as well as an outdoor education program offering activities that are an alternative to traditional sports and PE activities. Some of the activities offered include: Tae Kwon Doe, Cross Country, Squash, Skiing and Tennis.

Grymes student-athletes are challenged and supported by experienced faculty-coaches who promote and deepen understanding of the sport they coach. They foster, through example and mentoring, a deep commitment to teammates and school. They have knowledge and experience that makes them extremely effective in preparing their teams for a next game while helping individual athletes progress to the next level in their athletic development.

Because of our size and location, Grymes athletic teams play against all the best schools in Central Virginia from as far north  as The Hill school in Middleburg to as far West at Eastern Mennonite in Harrisonburg. Our competitors represent the best of Virginia prep schools. Our teams play schools which expose our students to interested high school coaches who regularly recruit students from Grymes. Our teams play at a developmental level which allows our students to learn skills and gain experience in whatever sport they choose.

Whether you are an accomplished athlete, or a novice, looking to enjoy the experience of being on a team and working for a common goal, we have a place for you!

Sincerely,
Richard M. Little
