The use of technology at Grymes is thoughtfully and deliberately integrated into the curriculum at all levels of instruction.
G
rymes is fortunate to be able to provide its kindergarten through fifth grade students with weekly technology instruction using up-to-date equipment in a way that enhances classroom instruction. Students begin by learning about the basic parts of the computer and use of the keyboard and mouse. They move on to learn keyboarding skills, basic commands and how a computer actually works. As they learn the basics of word-processing and spreadsheets, students begin to use the computer to complete classroom assignments and make presentations. The computer lab is used for writing instruction as students practice typing and experiment with different styles of writing. Web-based assignments are carried out in the lab, and students are instructed in the proper use of the internet for research. Most classrooms have the use of a digital overhead computer projector and screen and a mobile laptop cart allows each classroom to share ten laptop computers.
Internet and Computer Usage
Grymes is wired for internet use throughout the campus, allowing access to a wide range of information and providing an excellent resource for educational endeavors. The school has a firewall to control unwanted content such as viruses and spyware and to block access to inappropriate information. The staff strives to monitor computer usage at all times and any deliberate access of inappropriate material will result in disciplinary action. Parents are encouraged to discuss expectations concerning the internet with their children. The school works closely with students to educate them in responsible and safe internet use. We do not permit the use of personal laptops unless recommended by an educational consultant.
