Two children from each grade1st through 4th joined in the delivery, service, and visiting. Jr. kindergarten and kindergarten students prepared the “stone soup” in class on Tuesday, January 12th, as kindergarten teacher, Angela Sadler, read the story. Students in first grade prepared dessert and students in 3rd and 4th grades prepared sandwiches. The second grade class prepared toiletry bags with toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, washcloth, and a card. Head of Grymes Memorial School, Penny Work, read “Stone Soup” to the residents. In addition, the students in fifth grade are collecting shoes for the homeless and the all students brought canned goods for the Food Pantry in exchange for a “dress down” day. The community service projects at Grymes are in response to President Obama’s directive for a day of service in honor of Martin Luther King. Grymes Memorial School will be in session on Martin Luther King Day and students will attend a special assembly in honor of him.
