Tributes are pouring in from across our community in anticipation of our special “Pennies for Penny” Day of Giving in Honor of Dr. Work, celebrating Dr. Work’s thirteen years as Head of Grymes Memorial School on May 1st. Dr. Work has touched so many lives during her time here at Grymes, and it’s extraordinary to hear how deeply parents, grand parents, alumni and colleagues appreciate Penny’s warmth, kindness and devotion to this school!
“Dr. Work has striven to make Grymes an institution that values inclusivity, hard work, and ethical behavior. She has strengthened a foundation for students to develop into caring people and good citizens.”
“We will be forever grateful for the opportunity our granddaughter had to learn and grow at Grymes. Summer Young will be a junior at The College of Charleston next year and is doing very well thanks to the the years she spent at Grymes with Dr. Work and the great teachers at the school.”
“When Dr. Work (Miss Penny) would greet the kids in the morning with a hand-shake for years Jordan would run to her for a hug instead. Jordan feels like she is part a tight-knit family at Grymes and has become a strong student, friend, and young woman as a result and we feel Dr. Work has been a very important part of her personal success.”
“Penny’s love of education, learning and giving the gift of understanding to young people, are the very core of her… During the past 13 years Penny has made Grymes her own but also brought Grymes into a new era for learning, new buildings, and a dynamic fundraising emphasis which will ensure that this little school survives into the next 100 years. Penny deserves our thanks and very best wishes for a wonderful retirement.”
