About Grymes

Situated on forty-two beautiful acres overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains in historic Orange, Virginia, Grymes Memorial School is a private, coeducational day-school offering programs in junior kindergarten through eighth grade.

Hands-On Active Learning Environment

Our innovative curriculum emphasizes learning by doing at all grade levels. Through active learning, students engage with material meaningfully and find confidence in their achievements.

Small Class Sizes

With an average class size of 14 and a student to staff ratio of 7 to 1, students are given the individualized attention they need to meet challenges with encouragement and support when needed.

Music, Visual Arts, Drama & Public Speaking

Weekly music and visual arts classes foster confidence in self-expression, while class plays and Declamations throughout the year allow children to develop essential life skills that they will carry with them in high school and well beyond.

Spanish Instruction for All Grade Levels

With Spanish instruction beginning in Pre-Kindergarten, Grymes students are introduced to Spanish vocabulary, grammar, geography and culture from an early age. By graduation, Grymes students have completed a full year of high school-level Spanish and often place into advanced or Honors Spanish at the secondary level.

Integrated Technology for 21st Century Learning

Smartboards, laptop carts, technology lab and a 1:1 student:device ratio in the Upper School are incredible teaching tools that help us to prepare our students to succeed at the secondary level – and beyond – in a digital world.

May the magic of the holiday season bring peace, love and joy to you and yours! Merry Christmas from the Grymes family!

Monthly Mashup: November

At Grymes, this was a November to Remember! Our students tackled new challenges in science and engineering while taking us to Neverland (and back!) on stage. Here’s a fun look at what November looked like at Grymes!

Our Program

It is our goal to develop well-rounded tenacious thinkers, skillful writers and confident speakers who grow to become intellectually curious young adults. At every grade level Grymes students are given the challenges, opportunities and support they need to find their voice, discover their talents and find joy in learning.
